Back-stage configuring: a textual analysis of formalisation and professional judgement in two systematic reviews
This article sheds light on criticism of the increasing degree offormalisation in collating and synthesising researchfindings in thesystematic review format in education. A textual analysis of twosystematic reviews produced by the Swedish Institute for EducationalResearch unpacks the significance of interaction between formalisationand professional judgement. The article also shows that there is amismatch between the“front-stage”and“back-stage”of the reviewprocess. Interestingly, criticism is aimed at the ideal image of scholarlypractice rather than the actual review process.
