Transitioning from primary to secondary school is a big change for students. As schools begin to turn their minds towards student transition activities for the 2026 school year, new international research shines a light on the impact of student absenteeism during these transition years. We’re joined by the study’s lead author to find out more.

This study examined the developmental trajectories of school absences from primary school (Grade 6) to lower secondary school (Grade 9) and related risk and protective factors.
