Att spela dataspel är populärt. Över hälften av alla barn och unga i åldrarna 9–18 år spelar, liksom nästan hälften av alla i åldrarna 16–84 år, enligt de svenska undersökningarna Ungar och Medier 2025 och Swelogs 2021. Förutom att vara roligt och avkopplande kan dataspelande även ha positiva effekter på exempelvis reaktionstid, öga-handkoordination och uppmärksamhet.
